PPA logs 1.88M port passengers – BusinessWorld Online
THE Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has recorded 1.88 million passengers at the country’s main seaports during the Holy Week.
Data from the port regulator showed that it had logged a total of 1.88 million passenger count from April 12-19, higher by 8.9% than the projected 1.73 million passengers for the period.
This is also 12.6% higher than the 1.67 million recorded passengers at seaports in the same period last year, PPA said.
Last month alone, the port regulator said it had logged a passenger count of 3.03 million for the first three weeks of March or an average of 1.01 million passengers per week.
PPA General Manager Jay Daniel R. Santiago has said previously that the increase in passenger volume this year compared to the previous years is mainly due to the growing domestic travel demand and as many Filipinos take advantage of sea travel.
For this year, PPA has set its 2025 passenger volume target at 85.41 million, exceeding by 8.5% the recorded 78.74-million passenger count in 2024.
This year’s target is mainly driven by the government’s efforts to promote domestic travel and improve passenger facilities at regional ports, PPA said. — Ashley Erika O. Jose
