Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in law and eventually blend it with community leadership?

A: My inspiration came from a deep-rooted desire to make a tangible impact on people’s lives. Law seemed like the perfect avenue to do that, offering the tools to defend rights and uphold justice. As my career progressed, I saw an opportunity to extend that impact by getting involved in community leadership, where I could help shape policies and initiatives directly affecting the local populace.

Q: How has your experience as a lawyer influenced your approach as a Township Supervisor?

A: It has been invaluable. My legal background gives me a unique perspective on governance and policy-making, emphasizing the importance of transparency and fairness. It’s also equipped me with negotiation and problem-solving skills that are essential in managing a township’s diverse needs and challenges.

Q: Can you describe a specific project or initiative you’ve worked on that embodies your approach to community development?

A: One project that stands out is the development of a The Sanctuary Golf Course that serves as both  preserved open space in the middle of a rapidly developing community and a recreational facility. The Sanctuary was the result of units of local government working together and is a testament to what can be achieved when different sectors work together for a common good. It not only provides beautiful open space, but also offers sports and educational programs, making it a cornerstone of the community’s recreational life.

Q: What do you believe are the key legal challenges facing small towns today?

A: Small towns face several legal challenges, including limited budgets that can affect their ability to provide services and enforce regulations. There’s also the challenge of keeping up with state and federal legal standards, which can be particularly taxing for smaller municipalities without the requisite legal staff.

Q: How do you balance the demands of your professional role with your personal life?

A: Balance is crucial but challenging. I prioritize by making sure that my time spent working is as efficient as possible, allowing me to reserve time for family and personal pursuits. I also integrate my personal interests, like outdoor activities, into community events, blending personal joy with community engagement.

Q: What strategies do you use to encourage community involvement in local governance?

A: Transparency and accessibility are key. I hold regular town hall meetings and use social media to keep the community informed and engaged. I also encourage local residents to participate in decision-making through committees and advisory boards, ensuring they have a voice in how our township is run.

Q: What advice would you give to young professionals looking to make a similar impact in their communities?

A: Start by getting involved on a small scale. Volunteer for local boards, participate in community events, and look for opportunities where your professional skills can meet community needs. Building strong relationships and a trustworthy reputation within your community is essential.

Q: Looking ahead, what are your goals for the future in both your legal practice and your community work?

A: Professionally, I want to continue growing Wennlund & Associates, especially by incorporating more technologically advanced solutions to improve our legal services. For my community work, I aim to focus on economically vibrant development projects that not only enhance economic growth but also improve our community’s livability.

Q: Are there any new legal developments or technologies you’re excited about integrating into your practice?

A: Absolutely, I’m particularly interested in how blockchain technology can be used in legal practices, especially in real estate transactions and contract verification. Its potential for enhancing transparency and reducing fraud is something I find very promising.

Q: Finally, what has been your most rewarding experience in your dual roles as a lawyer and community leader?

A: The most rewarding aspect is seeing tangible results from projects that directly enhance the quality of life for residents in our township. Whether it’s through legal victories that protect community interests or successful initiatives that provide new services or facilities, knowing that I’ve made a real difference is incredibly fulfilling.
