The veteran left winger had hip resurfacing surgery in February, a procedure that came with a seven-to-nine-month recovery period.
“I’m feeling pretty good. It’s a big surgery,” Huberdeau said prior to taking part in the Calgary Flames Charity Golf Classic at Country Hills Golf Club on Thursday. “There’s no pain anymore, so which is nice to deal with. Just now, the goal is to come back and be 100 per cent.”
Huberdeau said he continues to skate on his own and work out off the ice to build up for rejoining his teammates for practice.
Other players who have had this surgery have had mixed results. Patrick Kane and John Klingberg were able to resume their careers, but Nick Backstrom and Ryan Kesler were forced to end their careers.
Huberdeau, 33, said his only focus right now is returning to game action.
“I’m staying positive. I just want to come back and feel like myself and feel good and I know I’m in the right direction,” he said. “It’s been going really well. I think just taking a little bit more time and make sure everything is all good.”
