Canada’s Brooke Henderson is within striking distance of a third major championship.
The Smiths Falls, Ont., native fired a 7-under 64 on Saturday to vault up the leaderboard at the Evian Championship, the fourth of five women’s majors on the calendar.
Henderson made two eagles on the day on the par-5 seventh and 15th holes. She nearly added a third on 18, but left her eagle putt just short before tapping in for birdie.
It could have been an even lower-scoring day for Henderson, too, as she will rue bogeys on 4, 8 and 17. Still, she’s likely to be content with her day after she truly caught fire to begin the back nine, making three straight birdies and shooting 6-under from 10 through 15.
The Canadian previously won this tournament in France in 2022 for her second major championship. She played in the final group of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship last month but settled for a T3 finish.
South Korea’s Haeran Ryu, who won that Women’s PGA Championship, also leads the Evian.
